Purpose To evaluate the 3-year safety, efficacy, predictability, and stability of iris-fixated toric phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) implantation for the correction of myopia or hyperopia with astigmatism. Ultraviolet radiation at Mediterranean latitudes and protection efficacy of intraocular lenses.

Summary Purpose After determining the mean intensity of ultraviolet radiation to which the human eye is exposed at Mediterranean latitudes, this data is used to evaluate the efficacy of the ultraviolet filters incorporated into various intraocular lenses. Methods Ultraviolet radiation measured at Mediterranean latitudes was used as a reference for the theoretical calculation of the amount of radiation to which the human eye is exposed. Anterior chamber depth measurement in teenagers. Comparison of two techniques

Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the anterior chamber depth (ACD) in teenagers using two different devices: partial coherence interferometry IOLMaster (Carl Zeiss Meditec) and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (Visante TM OCT, Carl Zeiss Meditec) and to evaluate the degree of agreement between ACD measurements carried out by both instruments. Optical quality of intraocular lenses after several years in the human eye

The optical quality of explanted intraocular lenses (IOLs) was analysed to verify if their quality is maintained after having been in the human eye for several years. Twenty-five explanted IOLs were studied, 10 because of intraocular luxation and 15 from corneal donors. The dioptric power and modulation transfer function (MTF) were determined to discover the image quality of the IOLs. The spectral transmission was also established to ascertain whether the filter against ultraviolet (UV) radiation was still effective. Modulation transfer function: Rigid versus foldable phakic intraocular lenses

Foldable toric intraocular lens for astigmatism correction in cataract patients.

Compression forces of haptics of freely rotating posterior chamber intraocular lenses.

Abstract Purpose: To measure the compressive forces of the haptics of 28 intraocular lens (IOL) models for different modes of compression and compare the results of two types of measurements. The "sandwich technique" for iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens implantation.

ABSTRACT PURPOSE: To describe a new technique of implantation of the Artisan/Verisyse phakic intraocular lens (PIOL). METHODS: After PIOL insertion into the anterior chamber, a bolus of a high viscosity ophthalmic viseosurgical device (OVD) is placed over the optic, separating it widely from the endothelium. RESULTS: The technique decreases the chance of endothelial damage during enclavation. CONCLUSIONS: A bolus of a high viscosity OVD placed on the anterior surface of the Artisan/Verisyse PIOL may make enclavation safer. [J Refract Surg. 2006;22:96-98.]
